Why are web server redirects important?
Web server redirects are necessary to redirect visitors of a website to the correct web page. If there were no web server redirects, a website visitor could remain stuck on an outdated web page. Web server redirects are often used to refer visitors to the maintenance page whenever maintenance is taking place.
Also in cases of website migration, for example if a website is moved to a different domain name, web server redirects come into play. This means that the search engines can be notified that the website address has been changed. Then the indexer of the search engine will skip the old address of the website in the future and immediately visit the new address.
